Morocco – a Land of Contrasts

Morocco 🇲🇦 is a truly fascinating country. I never made it to the coast but I did travel through a few cities in the north. My impression? A mix of shock, curiosity and wonder – especially from the perspective of someone used to Western Europe.

Much of what I saw felt very old – like time had stood still. Buildings seemed on the verge of collapsing and the streets were chaotic and dusty. Vendors would call out from every corner, all eager to sell you a carpet or two. It was intense, overwhelming at times and a big cultural shift.

But then you step into a nice hotel and suddenly, it’s like you’re in a completely different world. Western-standard luxury, polished service and comfort everywhere. The contrast between wealth and poverty is incredibly stark and honestly, a bit heartbreaking. Visiting places like Morocco reminds you that the world isn’t fair. While many of us live with so much, others still struggle with so little – sometimes feeling like they’re centuries apart from modern comforts.

What truly won me over though, was the food. Moroccan cuisine is absolutely delicious – rich, flavorful, sometimes spicy or a bit heavy but unforgettable. Even years later, I still love going to Moroccan restaurants just to relive those flavors and soak up the warm, aromatic atmosphere.

The second unforgettable highlight – the hammam. There are no words to describe a real Moroccan hammam experience. It’s deeply relaxing, detoxifying and when you walk out, you feel like you’ve been reborn. Pure bliss ✨
